Independence - going to a sleepaway camp is usually a child's first step toward learning independence. He/she learns to live with other campers and counselors in a small community (usually a cabin). The lessons to be learned through this experience are useful for the rest of a camper's life. Skill development - without homework/school concerns, a camper is able to concentrate on developing skills in many different areas. Friends - children form some of the best friendships of their lives in camp. Living together, experiencing varying activities together help to bond the children.
